I remember fondly a blog post Scott wrote about Niko that was essentially a Niko to English dictionary. Saffie is talking more and more to us which is amazing. Unfortunately she has decided to make up some words of her own in the process. It sometimes takes us days to figure out what she is talking about. If you speak with her in the near future here is a guide to help you out.
Dee = blankie (possibly the most important word in her life)
Baak = milk (not sure why)
Baa = banana
Wash = water (formerly wa-wa) and I need to wash my hands (of course)
Paypoo = playdough
Sti-ah = sticker (this isn’t really a made up word, I just think it’s cute)
Ca-poo = pasta (this one is new and really odd to me)
Choc = chocolate (yummy yummy)
Q = both Q and Romy (which really pisses Romy off and confuses everyone when we take Romy to the vet)
She still refuses to call me anything but Sassy which is what she calls herself. What’s a woman got to do to get her own child to call her mommy!!!!

If you don’t read Mark and Mandy’s blog you probably missed these photos. And that is just tragic.

These are from earlier this year . . .
I’m pretty sure this is the only time in her life she had both a bow and sunglasses on at the same time. The tattoo is icing on the cake.

Happy to be free of the glasses.

Preparing for her Little Toddler on the Prairie audition.

Saffie, Josh and I flew up to MT for the 4th of July weekend to give our parents some Saffie time and help Josh’s Grandma Ruby move into her new apartment.
At my parent’s house Saffie and my Mom had some fun with hats.

Grandpa Bill gave Saffie an impromptu ride in the driveway.

Saffie wore a nightgown my Aunt Elaine bought for my sister Emily when she was Saffie’s age all day to celebrate the 4th. Here she is hamming it up for the camera.

That morning while Ruby was being moved into her new place my Mom and I watched Saffie and Elsie. Other than a few disagreements on who was mama to the baby doll (note: always bring 1 baby per toddler on vacations) we had a great time.

This photo basically sums up Saffie and Elsie’s relationship. Saffie never runs out of hugs for Elsie and doesn’t really care if Elsie wants a hug. She’s going to get a hug and if that means pinning her down then so be it.

That afternoon we went to “the club” for a pool party where the girls got balloon animals and had their faces painted. Even now when Saffie sees a heart she points to her cheek or says cheek. Very cute.

Again with the hugs. Good thing Elsie is so patient with her!

It was a happy, happy 4th! And thanks again Sandy for giving Saffie a haircut!!

A short while ago Emily came down to visit us for a few days. Saffie was quick to show her how to fist bump.

and how to blow bubbles

and how to brush her hair

and how to give hugs

and how to be eaten by a dinosaur

All of us had a great time and Saffie can’t wait to see her Aunt Emily again!

There’s a big blog post to come about our most recent trip to MT, but I just had to post this photo of Saffie in a 4th-worthy nightgown my Aunt Elaine bought for my sister Emily when she was a little one.

After a rather lengthy hibernation the blog celebrating all things Saffron is back. Hopefully all of the technical problems we have been having have been resolved . . . and I actually remember to blog.
Here is Saffie and her Daddy on Father’s Day.

Amy’s birthday was this weekend and at some point I made the mistake of implying it was pretty easy to make a Millenium Falcon cake (like she had shown me from Ace of Cakes). I had forgotten about this comment – but as her birthday approached, she continued to bring it up and it became clear that she was challenging me to try it.
So I thought I would give it a shot. Amy has recently taken a cake decorating class, so we had a lot of the supplies and she was kind enough to help me identify any tools I might need (I think mostly so I couldn’t use that as an excuse if it didn’t go well). So the supplies were gathered and it was up to me to create a Millenium Falcon cake.
I looked on the internet for some images of the falcon so I could get the dimensions reasonably correct.
It actually ended up going pretty well. I twittered a series of steps that I took to pull it off:
step 1: bake 2 cakes (4 mixes) and stack them

step 2: print out template from google image search

step 3: carve the easy stuff and wonder how to carve the dome

Step 3b: attempt radical disassembly strategy

step 3c: dissassembly/carve/reassembly seems to be paying off

step 4: base layer of frosting – now to investigate fondant

(Note: I was going to cover the entire thing in fondant – I even covered the back half before tasting some of it – yuck! So I opted to go with butter creme instead and use the fondant sparingly for decoration)
step 5: gun metal butter cream

step 6: use sparse pieces of fondant

Start some detailing work (radar dish and gun in center looted from Lego Millenium Falcon)

step 7: profit! Happy Birthday Amy!
